Bangladesh have added in-form batter Amite Hasan to their squad for the upcoming second Test against West Indies, replacing the injured Mominul Haque ahead of the clash in Sylhet starting November 5. The squad adjustment comes as the sole change following the team’s eight-wicket defeat to the visitors in the opening Test at Dhaka, where Mominul suffered a head injury during the first innings.
Mominul was forced to leave the field immediately after taking a blow while attempting a catch at short leg, bringing Jaker Ali into the match as a concussion substitute. Under International Cricket Council regulations, any player diagnosed with a concussion must undergo a mandatory seven-day rest period before returning to competitive action, ruling Mominul out of the second fixture.
Squad Changes and Domestic Form
- Amite Hasan joins the national setup after displaying stellar form in domestic red-ball competitions.
- The 25-year-old boasts an impressive average of 79 across five matches in the ongoing domestic season.
- Amite recently recorded his third first-class double-century by scoring an unbeaten 201 for Sylhet Division.
- Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim retains his place in the squad despite missing the previous encounter due to a finger injury.
Upcoming Fixture Context
The hosts will look to bounce back in the final match of the series and level the score against a dominant West Indies side. Amite made his international Test debut earlier this year in July against Zimbabwe. Team management hopes his prolific domestic touch can bolster a batting lineup that struggled during the previous outing in Mirpur, where captain Najmul Hossain Shanto highlighted issues with consistency across the side.
The second and final Test is scheduled to get underway on November 5 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Mushfiqur Rahim is expected to return to the playing eleven, pending a final fitness assessment ahead of the toss.
