Indian javelin star and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has revealed that his ankle injury has improved significantly, clearing the path for him to resume training and begin formal rehabilitation in the coming weeks. The 28-year-old athlete suffered the injury during a training session back in August, which forced him to cut his competitive season short and miss major events including the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan and the Diamond League Final.

Injury Recovery and Medical Update

Chopra stated that after consulting medical specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, he was advised that his physical condition has progressed enough to start light training. The injury originally caused considerable concern during the initial month and a half, but strict adherence to a regimen of rest prescribed by his medical team has paid off. Supported by the Target Olympic Podium Scheme and the Sports Authority of India, the champion thrower is now fully focused on his upcoming physical rehabilitation.

  • Neeraj Chopra plans to resume training and rehabilitation within the next couple of weeks.
  • The javelin star was forced to miss the Asian Games and the Diamond League Final due to an ankle injury sustained in August.
  • His last official competition of the season was at the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21, where he secured a second-place finish.
  • Chopra welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme to boost domestic sports equipment production.

Looking Ahead to Future Events

Reflecting on the broader sporting landscape in India, Chopra praised the newly approved Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme as an important milestone that will reduce the dependency on imported athletic gear. He also offered encouragement to the 17-member Indian contingent traveling to Senegal for the Youth Olympic Games, advising the young athletes to embrace the pressure and use the international exposure to build their competitive experience for future global events.
