Hampshire batter Joe Weatherley has officially committed his long-term future to the county by signing a new contract extension that runs through the end of the 2028 season. The 29-year-old remains a cornerstone of the squad after delivering a record-breaking white-ball campaign last summer, anchoring his side’s batting lineup across multiple formats of the game.
Weatherley finished as the leading run-scorer in the previous T20 Blast season, accumulating a total of 591 runs at an impressive average just under 50. His standout performances included a historic Finals Day at Edgbaston, where he struck an unbeaten 88 against the Notts Outlaws in the semi-final before following up with 75 in the title clash against the Northamptonshire Steelbacks. That monumental effort made him the first player in tournament history to register two individual half-centuries on a single Finals Day.
Record-Breaking Career With Hampshire
- Weatherley penned a new deal keeping him at Hampshire until the conclusion of the 2028 domestic season.
- He amassed 591 runs during the last T20 Blast campaign, leading the competition charts.
- The batter became the first player to hit two fifties on a single T20 Blast Finals Day.
- He sits third on Hampshire’s all-time T20 run-scoring list with 2,741 career runs.
Looking Ahead to Future Trophies
Having progressed through the Hampshire academy system, Weatherley has featured in 211 matches across all formats since making his senior debut in 2016. His resume with the county already features prestigious titles, including the 2018 Royal London Cup and the 2022 Vitality Blast, alongside a brief stint in The Hundred with the Birmingham Phoenix.
Expressing delight over the extension, Weatherley emphasized his two-decade association with the organization and his hunger to deliver more silverware. The top-order batsman aims to build upon the team’s consistent deep runs in knockout tournaments and help convert their white-ball competitiveness into championship titles over the coming years.
