Former Surrey head coach Gareth Batty has officially released his parting thoughts after stepping down from his long-standing role to take up an assistant coaching position with Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings. Batty, who enjoyed a distinguished 21-year association with Surrey as both a player and coach, will now embark on a new chapter in franchise cricket alongside newly appointed head coach Zaheer Khan.
During his tenure at the helm of the English county side, Batty oversaw a remarkably successful period, guiding the team to three consecutive County Championship titles between 2022 and 2024. Although Surrey experienced a challenging campaign in 2025 where they finished as runners-up and flirted with relegation late into the following domestic season, his reputation as a top-tier tactician remained untarnished. His recent stint in franchise circuits includes working as an assistant coach with the Oval Invincibles during their triumphant 2025 campaign.

New Horizons in Franchise Cricket
Expressing deep gratitude upon leaving his lifelong domestic club, Batty acknowledged the immense privilege of serving Surrey through its various challenges and triumphs.
