Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has revealed the tactical blueprint behind his side’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou. The crucial result handed Barcelona their first defeat of the La Liga season and ended Real Madrid’s six-match winless streak at the venue on Sunday.
French forward Kylian Mbappe scored twice for Los Blancos, sealing the three points with an 87th-minute winner. However, a significant talking point from the fixture was Mourinho’s tactical setup, which successfully unlocked Barcelona’s defense in the closing stages of the tense encounter.
Tactical Execution and Midfield Runs
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Mourinho explained that he specifically instructed substitute Eduardo Camavinga to make surging runs from deep through the center of the pitch. According to the Portuguese tactician, utilizing midfielders rather than traditional attackers was the only way to bypass Barcelona’s high defensive line without falling into offside traps.

League Standings and Injury Heroics
Despite the historic away victory, Barcelona remain three points clear at the summit of the La Liga table after ten matches. Mourinho was quick to emphasize that his team’s overarching ambition remains winning the domestic league title rather than just celebrating a single triumph in Catalonia.
The manager also praised the remarkable resilience of midfielder Federico Valverde, who refused to be substituted and played through pain for over forty minutes. Additionally, Mourinho defended goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, highlighting the Ukrainian shot-stopper’s crucial saves under intense pressure and expressing frustration over a missed VAR decision regarding a potential red card for Barcelona defender Joao Cancelo.
