Roberto De Zerbi praised Tottenham’s resilience and growing winning mentality after his side secured a historic 2-0 victory against London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The crucial result allowed Tottenham to banish the memories of a dismal start to the campaign and claim a rare away win against their cross-town adversaries.
- Tottenham won at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League for just the second time in 36 years.
- The breakthrough came via an own goal from Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders before Mathys Tel sealed the result with a late strike.
- Chelsea played a portion of the match with 10 men following a red card shown to star midfielder Cole Palmer.
- The victory builds on recent team-building efforts implemented by De Zerbi to pull the squad together.
Breaking Long-Standing Droughts
Trips to west London have historically proved extremely difficult for Tottenham over the past four decades, making Saturday’s clean-sheet victory a monumental psychological boost. De Zerbi emphasized that the performance reflected a transformed dressing room atmosphere. Following a challenging start that sparked early relegation concerns, the manager organized bonding sessions including team dinners and a training trip to Marbella to solidify squad unity. Those efforts paid immediate dividends on the pitch as the players executed their tactical game plan to perfection against an expensively assembled Chelsea outfit.
Challenging Start And Moving Forward
Despite opening the season with a winless streak across their first six league matches, De Zerbi maintained absolute confidence in his group’s ability to turn things around. Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso faced a frustrating setback that halted the momentum generated by previous victories over Bournemouth and Everton. Alonso accepted collective responsibility for the disappointing performance from his fourth-placed side, noting that the opening goal altered the dynamic of the match and made it an uphill battle after going down a man.
