Amateur golfer Ojaswini Saraswat achieved a historic milestone on Friday by becoming the youngest Indian ever to make the cut at a Ladies European Tour event during the Hero Women’s Indian Open. The 13-year-old Jaipur-based player rebounded brilliantly from an opening round to secure her place in the weekend rounds with a stellar performance.

  • Ojaswini Saraswat carded a remarkable three-under 69 in the second round after initially opening with a seven-over 79.
  • Her tournament total of four-over 148 placed her comfortably tied for 26th position on the leaderboard.
  • She is officially the youngest Indian and the second youngest player overall to make the cut at any Ladies European Tour event.
  • Her exceptional second round featured seven birdies against four bogeys, highlighted by consecutive birdies on her final three holes.

Record-Breaking Performance

After finishing her first round over par, the eighth-grade student knew she needed a significant turnaround to make the cut. Saraswat delivered under pressure by displaying immense composure, birdying all four par-3 holes on the course. Remaining level par through her first 15 holes, she closed out her round with three straight birdies to finish at four-over 148 overall. Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn remains the youngest player overall to achieve the feat, having accomplished it at 12 years old during the 2008 Finnair Masters.

Background and Early Beginnings

Saraswat discovered the sport at the age of four when she began visiting the Mohali Golf Range located directly in front of her house. She has since gathered significant international experience as a junior, including finishing as a runner-up at the US Kids World Championship in Pinehurst and claiming a silver medal at the US Kids European Championship in 2024. Having earned her spot in the elite professional field through her standing in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Saraswat now aims to test her skills further against seasoned competitors during the remainder of the tournament.
