She followed this up with a dominant semifinal display against China’s Wenjin Qiu, eventually pinning her opponent after establishing a 10-8 lead. In the 59kg category, Komal bounced back from a semifinal defeat against Ukraine’s Alina Filipovych to secure the bronze medal. Her earlier rounds included a tight win on criteria against Canada’s Ella Finding and an 8-3 victory over Moldova’s Madalina Prisacari. Meanwhile, other members of the squad continue to hunt for podium finishes through the repechage system.
Repechage Opportunities And Challenges
Sweety will fight for a bronze medal opportunity in the 53kg category via the repechage route after her quarterfinal loss to Cristelle Rodriguez Dobler. She is scheduled to face China’s Xiaptong Zeng. Similarly, Vaishnavi Patil remains in the hunt in the 65kg division, where she will face Japan’s Haruka Kobaru. However, the Indian campaign faced logistical hurdles, missing out on several weight categories across women’s freestyle and Greco Roman styles due to visa issues.
